This will be a memorable day for me. I finally took the big decision to switch my browser from Maxthon to FireFox 2.0.
In the past I was using Opera but I had problems too often with sites designed to work only for IE, or even worse tested only with IE. So I switched to Maxthon. I was pretty happy with Maxthon for two reasons:
(a) It worked on all web sites.
(b) It offered several cool features (tabbed browsing, mouse gestures) out of the box; there was no need searching for and installing add-ons (plugins).
Now I am switching to FireFox 2.0 for one reason: SECURITY.
My workstation at the office is relatively well secured, Maxthon and all messengers run under a restricted user account, still a recent scan with some anti-spyware software found several spyware installed.
That was it for me! I am switching to FireFox 2.0 and I really hope it does better. I’ve been using FireFox 2.0 for three days now and I am happy with the add-ons I have found so far.
Still I haven’t figured out how to do a couple of very handy tricks I was heavily used to in Maxthon:
- New address in address bar automatically opens a new window.
- New search text in search box automatically opens a new window.
- Right-click and rotate mouse wheel let’s you navigate through tabs.
I would be grateful if anyone points to me an add-on that can provide me with this functionality.
What about IE7 you might ask? Well I am mainly a type B technology adopter according to the Gartner Hype Cycle so I will only try installing IE7 after at least one more year. Now IE7 is definitely immature and I don’t like installing on my PC immature software that thousands of hackers try to hack night and day.
By the way the Gartner Hype Cycle is a very interesting topic and it applies to any technological trend not strictly computer related stuff.
Enjoy!
